Similar to previous holidays I left from Swindon late in the afternoon on Friday and drove to Carlisle (approx 4hrs), where I stayed for the night. On Saturday morning I then crossed the border into Scotland to travel on to Islay.

Glasgow was soon passed, a first short stop at Loch Lomond. The weather was fairly cloudy with only occasional sunny spots. A dusting of snow could be seen on the higher summits, in particular the munros of Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps.

For lunch I stopped in Inveraray, where I had a quick bite at the Cottage Restaurant. Then it was on to Kennacraig to catch the early evening ferry to Islay. Finally a nice dinner at the Port Charlotte Hotel restaurant before going to bed to rest for the first walk on the Sunday.
