View over Woodhenge Inside Woodhenge
Explanation of the circlesWoodhenge is another Neolithic henge monument thought to be even older than Avebury or Stonehenge. It is called Woodhenge because it originally was a wooden structure similar to Stonehenge. The concrete posts mark where the original timbers used to stand. They stood in six oval rings which were aligned towards the mid-summer sunrise. The small mound in the centre is believed to be a child's grave.
