Picture of traffic on the motorwayPicture of the Empire Travel LodgeAfter my visit over Easter 2003 it was time for another visit to Scotland in late July and early August 2003. My destination for the first day was the Empire Travel Lodge in Lochgilphead. I had stayed here several times before on my way to Islay and decided to use it again. The drive up to Scotland along the M5 and M6 took longer than ->
Picture of a view over Loch Lomond in the evening sun expected due to a lot of roadworks, followed by some more roadworks on the M74 at Hamilton. This meant I didn't arrive at Loch Lomond until early in the evening,Picture of the view at Rest and be Thankful allowing me only a short stop to enjoy the view over it. Glen Croe was mostly in the shade when I arrived at Rest and be Thankful, the sun having disappeared behind the mountains.
Picture of a burn in Kilmory Woodland Park The next morning I had a nice walk in Kilmory Woodland park. The garden was nothing special (at least at this time of the year), but the woodland walks were very nice. There is a nice burn flowing through the woodland, which can be crossed at various places.
Soon it was time to drive on to Kennacraig, where I boarded the ferry to Islay. The weather during the crossing was mixed, a few showers but also some very nice sunshine. There were a few nice views over to Jura with the Paps of Jura dominating the skyline.
